East Village Dance Project (EVDP), was founded by Artistic Director Martha Tornay in 1997 as a dance development program for students age 4-19. What began as a program with a handful of eager students has developed into a pre-professional school and a teen repertory company. EVDP students have performed at La MaMa, Pace University, Purdue University, NYU Skirball Center, Abrons Arts Center, Kids Café Festival and at Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors. Guest Choreographers have included Nicole Wolcott, Ellen Cornfield, Molly Lieber and Kiva Dawson.
After a long search EVDP, in partnership with 7 Loaves/GOH Productions, opened Avenue C Studio at 55 Avenue C in January 2011, home for all EVDP classes and the teen company rehearsals.
“It’s amazing to see the development of these young dancers who are flourishing in the professional environment they deserve.” -EVDP parent
